With RAF Cranwell's astro still closed we've moved our social hockey back to the Leadenham All Weather.
Aimed at encouraging new players and providing an opportunity for a get together based around sport the sessions are friendly and welcoming.

You don't have to have played before, we can provide sticks, just turn up with some trainers, shin pads and a gum shield and have fun!

Any questions, get in touch via the website, or find us on social media on Facebook and Instagram.

Dunford Cup 2024

This July, Leadenham Hockey Club hosted its annual Dunford Cup tournament, at RAF Cranwell.

The Dunford Cup is named after former club president and founding member, Nigel Dunford. Nigel, a much loved local man, husband, and father of two, passed away in 2015, following his fight with cancer.

This years’ tournament saw eight teams battle it out across the day, playing each other in short, exciting and very warm 20 minute games! First place honours were taken by the ‘Wet Wipes’ team from Newark, with Leadenham’s own ‘White Woes’ taking second. A warm welcome was given to Sandy, Nigel’s widow, who joined us to present the trophy to the winning team.

The day not only gave everyone a wonderful opportunity to play some hockey and spend a day in the sun with friends; it also raised over £800 for the Lincolnshire Air Ambulance – Leadenham Hockey Club’s chosen charity.

Thanks to Dean Newell for organising another successful event, and to those who not only played, but stepped up to umpire, too.

A New Season Beckons

With September fast approaching, it's time to dust off the hockey stick, don those shin pads and make haste for Cranwell, where our training is now situated!

The return of the floodlight at Cranwell means that we can now safely train at RAF Cranwell astro! Sessions will be on a Monday night from 7:30-9:00pm.

Moreover, the pre-season friendly games arranged will be upon before too long. Wednesday 30th August sees the Men's 1 travel to Lindum in the evening, before an away clash against Newark for both Men's 1s and 2s on Saturday 2nd September.

On the same date, the ladies' 1s host their first friendly; they would appreciate the support if you're available.

Training begins on Monday 4th September at Cranwell from 7:30pm - 9pm.

Junior training starts on Monday 18th September at Leadenham Astro from 6pm-7pm.

I hope you enjoy the coming season.

Viva La Leadenham.

Sponsors Wanted

Leadenham Hockey Club are looking for financial support to continue offering hockey to the local community for the rest of this season and future years.
We have 4 regular adult league teams, a junior section, and a host of mixed and development teams that play in summer. Currently we are entirely self funded and don't make a profit meaning every cost comes from the members.

Get in touch if you'd like to support a local independent cause and find out how your sponsorship could help the club and what the club can offer in return.

Hockey in Lockdowns Guidance

As always things could change at any moment so please stay in contact with your captains, and the club's Covid Officer, Ellie Talton. England Hockey are on the back foot a little and reacting to national policies so please understand they are trying to do everything they can to allow hockey to continue. Perhaps at some point they will stop.

Maybe you have the eyes of a hawk and can read the table below, but in case you can't here is the link.

http://www.englandhockey.co.uk/news.asp?itemid=49726&itemTitle=Updated+Return+To+Play+guidance+in+line+with+new+Local+Covid+Alert+Levels&section=22

If you read the text long enogh little black dots start appearing in the spaces between boxes, then if you stare at them long enough new guidance will come out with even more red on it.

Return to hockey update

In light of the announcements from government on Tuesday evening, England Hockey can confirm that outdoor hockey can continue as planned for the foreseeable future, meaning that outdoor hockey will go to Step 5 from this weekend as already announced.

We are seeking clarification on a few points but unfortunately the expectation is that indoor hockey is unlikely to be possible this winter unless things change significantly. There are a few other outstanding questions for the outdoor game, particularly in relation to spectators and we intend to update our guidance later this week for clubs and organisations.

The new rules made it perfectly clear that organised outdoor sport is considered to be a safe activity. This endorses the assessment of the medical evidence that team sport NGBs, including England Hockey, have had agreed by Public Health England and DCMS. The key point is that organised activity is being supported, therefore the expectation for all involved in delivering hockey is to ensure that the guidance is followed – particularly the need to maintain a safe social distance outside of play. In some other sports, activity has been stopped where there is evidence of the guidance not being followed, and we do not want that to have to happen in hockey.

England Hockey CEO Nick Pink said, “As leagues start, we recognise that this is likely to be a season like no other, with the range of challenges clubs face from access to facilities, managing player availability, ensuring the guidance is followed as well as having significant restrictions on the social side of the game.

“Club officers will need support from volunteers and helpers, and everyone in the sport will be required to follow the expectations and guidance set out.

“We still have the opportunity to step on the pitch and play the game though and we hope that is something that people will cherish in these difficult times.”

What does this mean for Leadenham?

We do not have access to RAF Cranwell currently. As such training is being held at the Leadenham Village Hall astro turf, and home games are being played at Peter Paine in Boston.

Any questions or concerns please get in touch with our Covid Officer, Ellie Talton.

AGM Set for September 2nd!

After postponing the AGM scheduled at the end of last season, and no significant change in the guidance around hosting meetings expected to come soon, we have decided to host this year's AGM via Zoom!

The AGM will be hosted at 19:30 on Wednesday 2nd September - details for the call will follow.

The AGM will see the election of committee members for 2020/2021. If you would like more information on the committee, who the current committee is, and what each role does, then please head over to our Committee Page in the about us section.

To make sure the election runs smoothly we are asking that all nominations for positions are made via the Contact Us Form on this website.and we are requesting that this is done by the 1st September at the latest. So if you would like to take up a role on the committee please secure a nomination and get it sent in.

If you would like to help out next year but not keen on a committee position then there are a range of positions listed on the Committee Page which may give you ideas of how you can help the club.

England Hockey give the go ahead for training and matches!

What do you need to do in order to play again?

You will have to complete the Consent for Participating in Hockey during Covid Restrictions Form. This must be completed 24 hours before joining a session. It's a requirement as part of England Hockey's Return to Play and therefore you must do it in order to play.

When/where will sessions be?

The first session will be Wednesday night, 7-8pm at the Leadenham Astro Turf. The sessions will be limited to 15 people in total and will be a friendly knockaround throughout August to get people back on the pitch with a stick in their hand! It will cost £2 per person.
Nathan Chambers has kindly volunteered to book the sessions and each week it will be first come first served. If there is plenty of interest we will look at setting up more sessions.

But all I really want to do is pre-season fitness, what about me?!

Great news! You can just go for a run on your own - ask your captains or coaches for fitness ideas and challenges. Or for a more sociable take on getting fit for the season, join one of our group sessions run by Nathan. They're open to all at Leadenham Playing Fields, Thursday nights 6.30-7.30pm. These are free and will suit a wide range of abilities.

Hang on, don't leave now, I've still got questions!

Well, send them in.

Pre-Season Update

We are paying attention to guidance and will try to get access to a pitch as soon as available. This will probably be in August and may have to be somewhere other than RAF Cranwell to begin with.

England Hockey are expecting the league season to take place as normal from September so that is what we are preparing for.

Stay tuned for pre-season outdoor fitness get togethers, and for Strava users, keep track of progress with other club members by joining the group "Leadenham Hockey". If you want to have fun and annoy Henry make sure you beat his times on the segments!
